Dr James Ash (Newcastle University) and Dr Sarah Mills (Loughborough University) have secured funding from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to undertake vital research to understand how children and young people use and respond to gambling style systems in games in their everyday lives. The project is concerned with whether these systems cause gambling-like behaviour and, if they do, how they can be regulated to protect children and young people from gambling-related harm. They will be working alongside key organisations that have an interest in children and young people’s issues, gambling, and regulation, in order to produce evidence to influence regulatory debate and public policy.
